USDA to begin issuing $2.14 billion to agricultural producers through key conservation and safety-net programs
LINCOLN – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced that it will begin issuing more than $2.14 billion in payments to eligible agricultural producers, and landowners – providing much needed support through key conservation and safety-net programs. Producers should soon receive payments from USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) for their participation in these programs aimed to conserve natural resources and keep family farms economically viable.

2023 Irrigation and Water Management data now available
LINCOLN – There were 212,714 farms with 53.1 million irrigated acres, which included 81 million acre-feet of water applied in the United States, according to the 2023 Irrigation and Water Management Survey results, published today by the U.S. Department ofAgriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

Nebraska crop production report released
LINCOLN –Based on Nov. 1 conditions, Nebraska’s 2024 corn crop is forecast at 1.88 billion bushels, up 9% from last year’s production, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. If realized, this would be a new record production.

OSMOND – On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Osmond One-Act cast and crew took the stage at Lutheran High Northeast in their production of “The Great Gatsby.” The production is adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel.

Christmas Wishes to be held December 8
OSMOND – The community Christmas Wishes gathering will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the city auditorium. Hosted by Sons of the American Legion (SAL), it combines an evening of entertainment with honoring local veterans and assisting those who could use a little help at Christmastime.

Council hears Broadband update; approves after school program in city hall
OSMOND – The Osmond City Council met Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the council room. Klint Arnold of Stealth Broadband gave an update and presented blueprints for equipment placement. Permits will be done in December and work will begin in January, weather permitting. They hope to have work completed for Phase I the end of May and start hooking residents up June 1.

Pierce County Housing Study, resident and employer survey responses requested
