Alaska was born on March 21, 1927, in Osmond, where she graduated in 1943 from Osmond High School. She went on to college and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught high school English and history for more than 35 years at Pierce and area high schools.
One of Alaska’s greatest passions was raising and showing Appaloosa horses. Her prize stallion, Bar Command, won multiple awards as a champion horse.
Alaska was proceeded in death by her three younger sisters: Charmain Gleason, Sharon Andreasen, and DixieLee Tripp; a nephew, Dana Gleason, and her parents, V. Glaze and A. Dorinda Reed.
She leaves behind four nieces, Heather Mueller, Sarah Moser, Wendy Tripp, and Lt. Col. (Ret) Hillary Luton, and three nephews, Eric Andreasen, Matt Andreasen, and Kyle Tripp.
The family will honor Alaska’s life privately without holding a public service or gathering. The family requests that instead of flowers, memorial do nations be sent to any of the following charities: American Red Cross, the Nebraska State Education Association, or the EQUUS Foundation.
