Nebraska June 1 grain stock numbers released
LINCOLN – Nebraska corn stocks in all positions on June 1, 2024 totaled 433 million bushels, up 5% from 2023, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 250 million bushels are stored on farms, up 9% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 183 million bushels, are up 1% from last year.

Dust storm, snow hit Hastings in 1935
During the 1930s, Nebraska suffered one of the most serious droughts in its history. In all parts of the state rainfall was far below normal. The dry powdered soil began to blow, and as dust storms obscured the sun, parts of Nebraska and the Great Plains became 'the Dust Bowl.'

Take beginning wildfowl carver course at Schramm
Learn how to create a miniature duck decoy in four weekly sessions at Schramm Education Center from 3-7 p.m. July 27, Aug. 3, 10 and 17. Participants will work with experienced carvers of the Central Flyway Decoy Collectors and Carvers Club, who will lead them through the carving process to complete a miniature redhead duck decoy.
