WAYNE - On Saturday, March 16, the Osmond Tiger track teams traveled to Wayne for their invitational. The weather was cool but very windy.
Osmond athletes, as well as ath- letes from Columbus Scotus, Wayne, Boone Central, and Scribner-Snyder, braved the elements for the first meet of the year.
The Tigers fared well in the field events, starting with a gold medal won by senior Xander Brown in the discus. Xander took the lead on his first of four throws and never was challenged. His mark was 137 ft., 10 in.
Xander's teammate, Carson Bolz, was second with a toss of 109 ft., 0 in. on his third throw. Third place was 106 ft., 0 in.
In the shot put, Xander had the best mark until the last throw of the competition, with a distance of 40 ft., 4 in. That last throw was by Thomas Roberts of Boone Central that measured 41 ft., 6 in.
Hunter Buchanan took the lead in the long jump on his second jump that measured 19 ft., 3.25 in. Evan Steffensmeier of Scotus then popped a 19 ft., 6.25 in. to take the lead and that held up for the win.
In the field for the girls, senior Anabelle Vinson had her best discus toss on her fourth and last throw of the event. Her distance was 86 ft., 3 in.
On the track, Dominic True was the top medal winner, finishing in second place in a very strategic race.
The top five runners raced in a pack until the last lap, then it turned into a sprint and Dominic nearly caught first place. His time was 5:18.32 and the
Boone Central runner, Micha Cuevas, ran 5:17.36.
James Doyle finished in fourth place in the 200 meters. James was clocked at 25.73. Hunter Buchanan placed fifth in the 100 meters in a time of 12.11.
Owen Severson earned a sixth- place medal in the 300 hurdles in a time of 50.07, and freshman Caleb Vinson placed sixth in the 400 meters in 65.86.
On the girls’ side, Erica Heiman earned medals in both the 300 hurdles and the 100 hurdles. She placed fifth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 55.68 and was sixth in the 100 hurdles in 19.07.
The boys’ 400-relay team of Noah Geneski, Brown, Doyle and anchor- man Buchanan finished in third place in a time of 47.72. The 1,600-relay team of Severson, Mason True, Jaxon
Vinson and anchor Geneski took third place, clocked at 4:06.28.
The Tigers’ 3,200-relay team finished in fifth place in a time of 9:51.25. Team members were Jaxon Vinson, Caleb Vinson, Caleb Miller and anchorman Dominic True.
The girls’ 1,600-relay team earned a sixth-place medal. Heiman, Charley Aschoff, Vinson and Addison Miller covered the distance in 5:15.61.
“We competed very well on a tough weather day,” complimented Coach Joe Ortmeier. “It was really fun watching our kids go head-to-head with some pretty tough schools and do very well!”
The Plainview-Wausa triangular meet has been canceled this year, so the Plainview invitational is up next for the Tigers on Thursday, March 28.
