GRAND ISLAND – Fourteen Wausa students recently attended the Nebraska SkillsUSA Middle School Skills Conference.

The conference took place on March 1 at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, where the Wausa students attended career awareness sessions put on by industry leaders like Morton Buildings, the Crete Carrier Corporation and others.

Along with the sessions, the Wausa students competed in six different district events – some were individual events while others were team events.

Wausa had three individuals place in the top three of their respective events: - Seventh-grader Kendra Kleinschmit placed first in Extemporaneous Speaking. - Seventh-grader Isabelle Seagren


placed first in State T-shirt Design. - Sixth-grader Colton Hoesing placed third in Prepared Speech. Kendra and Isabelle are set to compete at the 2024 Nebraska SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference, scheduled for April 11-13 in Grand Island.
