HARTINGTON — On Tuesday, Feb. 20, the Osmond-Randolph Hawks took on the Cedar Catholic Trojans in the first round of subdistrict play at Hartington Cedar Catholic. The Trojans showed why they are one of the top ranked teams in Class C2, and took down the Hawks in convincing fashion, Senior Xander Brown led O-R in scoring with 10 points, all of which came in the first half. Logan Lienemann came next with 8 points, and freshman Ryan Engel scored 5. Owen Severson knocked down a 3 for his only points of the night, and Baylen Guenther rounded out the scoring with a free throw.
Cedar Catholic went on to win the subdistrict and punched their ticket to the state tournament in Lincoln with a victory over Lutheran High Northeast, 53-48, in the district final.
Osmond-Randolph finished the season with a 6-16 record, with seven of those losses coming at the hands of state tournament qualifiers. The final month of their season was full of competitive games, and the Hawks won two of their final three regular season games prior to the first round subdistrict exit. The team says goodbye to six senior boys, all of whom were contributors to the team this year: Matthew Alderson, Xander Brown, Hunter Buchanan, Baylen Guenther, Owen Severson and Brayden Shearer.
