On Wednesday, Dec. 6, 20 Osmond FFA members traveled to Lutheran High Northeast to compete in the District 4 Leadership Development Event Competition. Nebraska FFA’s Leadership Development Events (LDEs) are designed to help members prepare for careers in agriculture.
Classroom instruction comes to life as students compete and showcase their skills in public speaking, parliamentary procedure and agricultural demonstration. FFA members must compete at district-level LDEs in order to qualify for competition at the State FFA Convention in the spring.
Each District may qualify three students/ team per event.
This year, Osmond FFA qualified
five individuals in three events for the state competition which will be held April 3-5, 2024, in Lincoln.
Students qualifying for the state competition included Ava Reikofski as the champion in cooperative speaking, Matthew Alderson as the runner-up in employment skills, and the champion agricultural demonstration team of Matthew Alderson, Cody Gansebom, Baylen Guenther and Owen Severson. Addi von Rentzell earned a fourth place purple ribbon in junior public speaking and will serve as the district alternate for the state competition.
Other students competing included James Doyle - purple in employment skills; Ashlyn Spangler - blue in junior public speaking; Hunter Buchanan blue in cooperative speaking; Caleb Vinson - blue in creed speaking; Ava Severson - blue in senior public speaking; Keely Gubbels - blue in senior public speaking; Deanna Kumm and Alexa Aschoff - both earning red in natural resources speaking; Korrine Moes, Ady Poellet, and Easton Steinkraus all earning blue ribbons in agricultural literacy speaking; and two junior high quiz bowl teams consisting of Korrine Moes, Ady Poellet, Easton Steinkraus, Nick Kumm, Aidan Stech and Dawson Gansebom.
The students' next competition will be District Livestock Judging on Jan.
25 at Northeast Community College.
