The Pierce County Republican Committee met at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Lied Library in Pierce, with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer, led by member Joe Schmit.
Chairman Brad Lewon began the meeting by sharing with those present that he attended (by Zoom) the parliamentary training along with Lisa Linville Jan. 13-14. Brad shared that the training went into depth on meeting order. His hope is that between him and Lisa Linville, they will be able to guide the county meetings with a polite, effective and orderly manner.
The chairman announced Wayne County GOP will be hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 24, for anyone interested in attending. The chairman also announced that he received correspondence from Senator Deb Fischer's office acknowledging county conventions will be occurring and to let her office know of concerns that her office could address.
The county chairman stated the next Pierce County Republican Convention will be held on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pierce Lied Public Library. He advised that he will seek out a speaker for the county convention. Several suggestions were made for speakers.
At the county convention, the county executive committee, two delegates and two delegate alternates for the state convention are elected by the county registered Republicans.
Only those who have filed their com pleted and notarized delegate form to the county clerk before March 1 are eligible to run for these positions and vote at the county convention.
Chairman Lewon asked those in attendance if anyone had any desire to run for any one county GOP seat. There was no further discussion or any expressed interest at that particular moment.
The chairman announced Lisa Schmit will be stepping down as county secretary-treasurer and this position would need to be filled.
The chairman again encouraged all registered county Republicans to com plete and file the delegate form so that the organization can obtain a good number of voting delegates in Pierce County.
The chairman announced the 2024 Nebraska State Republican (GOP) Convention is slated for May 18 in Lincoln.
The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m. The next meeting will be the Pierce County GOP Convention held on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Lied Library in Pierce. Refreshments will be served. All Pierce county residents who are registered Republicans are welcome to attend.
