CENTER – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a report Jan. 27 of a mailbox being run over in Wausa.
The mailbox was located along McKinley Street, where there were two mailboxes on a post. It looked as if someone had backed out of the north side of the street, gone into a snowbank where the mailboxes were located and then driven off. The investigation is still ongoing.
The sheriff’s office responded at about 8 a.m., Jan. 23, to a one-vehicle crash north of 874th Road on Highway 14, about nine miles northwest of Creighton.
Diana Frisch, Creighton, had been driving northbound when her vehicle hit black ice on the highway due to freezing temperatures and dense fog. This caused Frisch to lose control of her vehicle, which ultimately ended up in the east ditch.
She was not severely injured in the crash, but was transported by Verdigre Rescue to Avera Creighton Hospital, where she was treated for injuries.
Fire and rescue personnel from both Creighton and Verdigre responded to the scene.
The sheriff’s office would like to remind everyone to be vigilant while driving in winter conditions.
The sheriff’s office recently received a report of another scam that may be going on in the area. It has been reported that a person is sending texts using a name of a local Catholic priest.
The texts are asking the person to get a gift card for someone in the area who needs help. They then text back and want the numbers and code from the gift card.
People need to be aware of anyone who asks them to give them a card number over the phone. The sheriff’s office advises people to never give out any personal information over the phone.
