Lady Hawks season ends in subdistrict play

The Osmond-Randolph Hawks ended their season in subdistrict play with a win against Lutheran High Northeast, followed by a loss to Norfolk Catholic.

Hawks vs. Eagles

The Hawks started postseason play last Monday, Feb. 12, at Norfolk Catholic where they took on the Lutheran High Eagles. The Hawks came out to start the game with strong defense, holding the Eagles to only 4 first quarter points and 7 second quarter points.

‘The Eagles showed they weren’t going down easy as they had a big third quarter and outpaced the Hawks 11-7 to take a 22-21 lead going into the fourth quarter. Lutheran High started the fourth quarter extending their lead as they built it up to a 27-21 lead with about 4 minutes remaining in the quarter.

The Hawks came charging back and knotted the game at 27 all with a little over a minute left in the final quarter. With the Hawks over the foul limit in the quarter, they were able to defend without fouling for a good portion of the final minute.

Lutheran High called a timeout to get a shot set up in the closing seconds. The Eagles got the look they wanted but the shot did not fall. For the first time this season the Hawks found themselves going into overtime to finish a game. And that they did; in the four minute overtime period, the Hawks outscored the Eagles 7 to 2 to take the victory with a final score of 34-29.

Ella Scott had a major impact on the game as she finished with a teamhigh 13 points and came down with 8 rebounds. Kaleigh Miller chipped in 6 points as she grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. As a team, the Hawks had their third straight game, finishing with over 40 rebounds.

With the win, the Hawks moveed onto the next round where they would face the No. 1 seed and host Norfolk Catholic Knights. Right away, the Knights showed why they were the No. 1 seed.

They attacked early and often and had built up a quick 17-1 lead after the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Norfolk Catholic had ex-

tended their lead to 23-1. From this point on, the game started to flow better for the Hawks, as they found their rhythm on offense and got some stops on defense.

For the final two and a half quarters, the Hawks outscored the Knights.

Unfortunately it was not enough as the Knights moved on with a 53-33 win, ending the Hawks’ season.

For the five seniors: Ella Scott, Caydence Krienert, Juliana Kumm, Anabelle Vinson, and Tessa Gardner; it was the final time they would walk off the court after that final buzzer sounded.
