Lady Hawks take fifth in conference play

Lewis and Clark Conference basketball tournament action resumed on Tuesday, Jan. 30, as the Osmond-Randolph Hawks hosted Winside in Osmond in the consolation bracket. The Hawks showed some strong defense, holding Winside to only 3 points in the first quarter. The second quarter saw senior Ella Scott ignite the Hawks offense as she poured in 8 points in the quarter to bring her first half total to 13 points.

Lewis and Clark Conference basketball tournament action resumed on Tuesday, Jan. 30, as the Osmond-Randolph Hawks hosted Winside in Osmond in the consolation bracket. The Hawks showed some strong defense, holding Winside to only 3 points in the first quarter. The second quarter saw senior Ella Scott ignite the Hawks offense as she poured in 8 points in the quarter to bring her first half total to 13 points.

The Hawks went into the halftime break holding a 26-7 lead. Efficient offense and good defense carried Osmond-Randolph through the third quarter yet as they outpaced Winside 15-5 to take a 41-12 lead after three quarters of play.

The Wildcats doubled their total in the fourth quarter and outscored the Hawks 12-10 but it wasn’t enough, as the Hawks took the 51-24 victory.

Ella Scott, who had 13 first-half points, finished with a team-high

15 points. Keli Aschoff put together another good effort as she finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals. Score by Quarter Hawks 9 17 15 10 = 51 Winside 3 4 5 12 = 24

In the final game of the conference tournament, the Hawks traveled to Hartington on Friday, Feb. 2, for consolation action against the Walthill Blujays.

The Hawks came out attacking and were able to hold a slim 10-6 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Blujays cut the lead to only 3 as the Hawks held a slim 15-12 advantage.

At that point, the Hawks went on a 40-6 run to finish out the game to win the contest via a 55-18 final score.

Osmond-Randolph was able to hold Walthill to only 6 total points the entire second half.

Ella Scott continued her strong week of basketball as she netted 9 points in the third quarter alone as she finished with a team-high 14 points. Keli Aschoff finished with 10 points and a team high 5 assists. Sophie Gansebom scored 9 points and grabbed a team high 7 rebounds. The Hawks had 10 of the 14 girls suited up hit the scoring column.

Subdistrict play will begin Monday, Feb. 12, for the Hawks.
