Bolz, Vinson are conference wrestling champs

The Osmond wrestling team had a busy week, with the conference meet on Tuesday and a tournament at Clarkson-Leigh on Friday.

The Osmond wrestling team had a busy week, with the conference meet on Tuesday and a tournament at Clarkson-Leigh on Friday.

Conference Meet

The wrestling team competed in the Lewis and Clark Conference meet on Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Winnebago. The Tigers placed fourth overall as a team, having two conference champions, junior Carson Bolz and freshman Caleb Vinson. Jaxon Vinson received runner up, while Kaleb Gardner fin - ished third. Mason True finished one and one for the day. Nicolas Velasco ended the day one and two.

“All in all, we wrestled some of our best this year,” said Coach Nathan Vinson.

126 lbs. — Mason True (14-14) won by 4-1 decision over Burtt of Winnebago, lost by fall to Sellin of Winside, lost by medical forfeit to Hansen of Plainview, Dobler of Plainview and Newton of Wakefield 132 lbs. — Caleb Vinson (20-7) received a bye, won by fall over Junck of Randolph and Edwards of Winside 144 lbs. — Nicolas Velasco (8-17) won by fall over Harden of Winnebago, lost by fall to J. Vinson of Osmond, Carlson of Winside and Ickler of Plainview 144 lbs. — Jaxon Vinson (27-8) won by fall over Ickler of Plainview, Velasco of Osmond and Harden of Winnebago, lost by 4-8 decision to Carlson of Winside 150 lbs. — Kaleb Gardner (21-8) lost by 3-9 decision to Isom of Tri-County Northeast, won by fall over McWhorter of Wakefield, lost by 1-6 decision to Leija of Plainview, won by fall over Armell of Winnebago 215 lbs. — Carson Bolz (25-6) won by fall over Fanta of Creighton, Miller of Randolph and Stewart of Plainview Clarkson-Leigh Invite On Friday, Feb. 2, the team traveled to Clarkson-Leigh for another tournament. This was a very hard tournament with a lot of Class B and C schools.

Osmond didn’t have any individual placers, but they all wrestled very well against very good competition.

Wrestlers will be traveling to Weeping Water on Friday and Saturday for districts.

126 lbs. — Mason True (15-16) won by 13-9 decision over Anderson-Ray of Guardian Angels-Central Catholic (GACC), lost by fall to Fisher of Crofton-Bloomfield, lost by fall to Cozad of North Central 132 lbs. — Caleb Vinson (21-8) received a bye, lost by 2-5 decision to Brichacek of GACC, won by fall over Flores of Archbishop Bergan, lost by medical forfeit to Coufal of Howells-Dodge 144 lbs. — Jaxon Vinson (30-10) won by fall over Kellogg of Archbishop Bergan, lost by 4-13 major decision to McFarland of Columbus Lakeview, won by fall over Reiser of Sandhills-Thedford and Larsen of Pender, lost by 7-9 decision to Prewitt of North Central 144 lbs. — Nicolas Velasco (819) lost by fall to Lautenschlager of Bishop Neumann and Reiser of Sandhills-Thedford 150 lbs. — Kaleb Gardner (23-10) won by fall over Kaczor of North Central, won in sudden victory-1 4-2 over Rasmussen of Pierce, lost by 4-17 major decision to Bolling of Pierce, lost by fall to Ruwe of Tekamah-Herman
