OSMOND — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 326 met Monday, March 17, at 7 p.m. to host students, parents and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic and Osmond Community schools. The students read their essays on “What Does ‘America The Beautiful’ Mean to Me in Regard to Veterans and The Military?” Students who received first and second place read their essays and were awarded cash prizes. Grades three through 11 were represented. Thanks to Diane Borst and Cleo Pfanstiel for being in charge of this project, and all members who helped judge the 83 essays. Refreshments were served to all present.
The business meeting began at 8 p.m. with seven members present.
Diane Borst and Holly Koehler reported that they had attended the District 2 convention at Creighton on Sunday, March 16. Discussion was held on the Girls State candidate. The American Legion Auxiliary will pay costs if the student is able to attend.
Norfolk Veterans Home residents planned to be in Osmond at 3rd Street Bar & Grill at 11:30 a.m. for a buffet hosted by the Sons of the American Legion. All Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars members were invited. It was later rescheduled because of the weather to Wednesday, April 2.
A thank you note from the Mary Ann Peschel family was read. Bingo will be held at the Norfolk Veterans Home on Friday, April 11, at 1:30 p.m. Members who are able to attend are asked to bring a dozen cookies. Thursday, May 22, is Poppy Day in Osmond.
