KEARNEY — The speech team traveled to Kearney for the NSAA State Speech Competition on Friday, March 28. The team consisted of Erin Wagner, Erin Aschoff, Meagan Wagner, Jack Berg, Justin Rohloff, Kaleigh Miller, Piper Hoffman, Jade Halsey, Ava Reikofski, and Donovan Heiman.
The team had a send off from school Thursday morning with a fire truck escort out of town.
At the state competition, students compete in three rounds before the final round is announced. Three judges critique the final round and the rank totals decide the final placing.
Placing at state were: Erin Wagner placed sixth in Program of Oral Interpretation (POI), Erin Wagner placed second in Informative Speaking, Piper Hoffman placed third in Persuasive Speaking, Ava Reikofski placed sixth in Persuasive Speaking, and the OID team of Jack Berg, Erin Aschoff, Mea- gan Wagner, Jade Halsey, and Justin Rohloff placed fifth. Overall, the team finished fourth of the Class D1.
“The team has worked incredibly hard all season,” praised Coach Patricia Marks. “Their hard work and dedication has definitely paid off. I am proud of the work they have done and am looking forward to what next year has in store for us.”
