Osmond band shines at NECC Jazz Festival
band earned an impressive second-place finish. This marks a significant achievement for the band, as it is the first time they have placed at this pres tigious event in 10 years.
The band showcased their talent with a set of five diverse selections: "Dill Pickles" by Howard Rowe, "Soft and Easy" by Terry White, "Hog Squealin', Rip-Snortin', Belly Achin' Blues" by Michael Sweeney, "A Horse With No Name" arranged by Victor Lopez, and "Pass the Hot Sauce" by Brad Ciechomski.
Their dynamic and expressive performance captivated the judges, earning them nearly perfect scores. Each of the three judges awarded them a superior rating, solidifying their reputation as an outstanding jazz ensemble.
A standout moment of the festival was Jack Berg’s trombone solo during "A Horse With No Name," which earned him a superior solo award. His exceptional musicianship added a memorable highlight to the band’s overall performance.
Director Christalin Ginn expressed immense pride in the band’s accom- plishment. "I am so proud and super impressed by this group of jazz band members," Ginn remarked. "They have worked incredibly hard, and this recognition is well deserved.”
With this remarkable success, the Osmond Jazz Band is now setting its sights on the upcoming District Music Contest on April 25 in Laurel.
