Tigers compete at WSC indoor track meet

Saturday, March 22, the Osmond track and field teams traveled to Wayne for the WSC Class-I Indoor meet. This was the first time the meet was held in the new indoor bubble facility with a 300-meter six-lane track.

Along with the Osmond Tigers, teams from Gehlen Catholic (Iowa), Boone Central, Columbus Lakeview, Columbus Scotus, Hartington-Newcastle, Wakefield, and Wayne competed.

Though the Tigers did not earn any medals or make any of the finals, they had some notable marks. Best finish for the Osmond girls was junior Carriana Kumm in the 800 meters, finishing 8th in 2:59.84. Deanna Kumm crossed the line in 11th place in the 1,600 meters in a time of 7:53.18.

The boys' best finish came in the 3,200 meters as junior Jack Berg placed 8th in a time of 12:47.87, not that far off his best time last season. The boys' 1,600-relay team also finished in 8th place in a time of 3:55.83 which is a second faster than the relay team ran last year. Team members were Jaxon Vinson, Caleb Vinson, Mason True, and Noah Geneski.

Caleb Vinson was also 12th in the 400 meters in 58.70 seconds which is faster than his best time last season. Mason True also finished 12th in the 200 meters in 25.25 seconds, also better than his best time last year in that race.

“We did have some nice performances, and they should improve greatly with some consistent practice if the weather allows” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier.

Osmond is scheduled to compete in the Plainview invitational on Friday, April 4, followed by the Battle Creek invite on Tuesday, April 8.
