NORFOLK – More than 50 Northeast Community College students were inducted in the largest honor society in higher education, joining a group of greater than 2 million internationally.
The induction ceremony took place Thursday, March 20, at the Lifelong Learning Center.
For more than 100 years, member- ship in Phi Theta Kappa has signified a singular honor and a willingness to embrace the society’s shared commitment to academic excellence. Since the installation of Northeast’s Tau Chi chapter in 1996, Northeast has inducted about 3,500 students into the international academic honor society for two-year colleges.
Among this year’s inductees is Anabelle Vinson of Foster. Anabelle is an Osmond graduate with the Class of 2024, and the daughter of Nathan and Terin Vinson.
PTK advisers are Amana Nipp, vice president of Student Services; Colleen Barnes, Criminal Justice and Sociology instructor, and Laura Schwanebeck, director of Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program.
PTK officers for 2024-25 are: PTK President,- Jason Wanetka; PTK Vice President of Leadership, Breena Schwarzkolf; PTK Vice President of Scholarship, Abigail Coe; PTK Vice President of Followship, Aziz Tadzhibaev, and PTK Vice President of Communication, Annie Salvatori.
New officers for 2025-26 are: PTK President, Chom Dah; PTK Vice President of Scholarship, Isaiah Saldana; PTK Vice President of Followship, Prah Meh; and PTK Vice President of Communication, Apple Dah.
The organization’s mission is two- fold: recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.
