OSMOND — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 326 met Monday, Feb. 24, at the Legion hall. The meeting was called to order by President Barb Rhode with the following members present: Diane Borst, Michelle Reikofski, Miriam Stelling, Linda Krohn, Cleo Pfanstiel, Barb Rhode, Holly Koehler, and Chris Adamson.
President Rohde opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble. An opening prayer was given by Chaplain Holly Koehler.
Cleo and Diane reported on the upcoming Americanism Essay Contest. This year’s essay title is “What Does America the Beautiful Mean to Me” (regarding veterans and the military)? Contest rules were presented to students in grades three through 12 at both Osmond public and St. Mary’s schools.
Essay winners will be invited to share their essay at the March 17 Auxiliary meeting. Parents are invited to attend with coffee and cookies following. Members are asked to provide cookies for this event. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
Treasurer Linda Krohn reported that the MaryAnn Peschel $10 memorial has been sent in and that the Osmond organization is current with memorials. She has received a request from COPE – Post Prom asking for a donation. A donation was made for this worthwhile event.
Michelle gave a brief and informative presentation on the history of Girls’ State. There is one Girls’ State entry this year to attend the week-long conference in June. The applicant’s meaningful and well written essay was read, with the group in favor of accepting and offering the scholarship to said applicant.
A thank you from the Peschel family was shared with the group. It was also reported that Children and Youth Chair Amanda Koehler has contacted the St. Mary’s contacts and the upcoming spring event for children is planned and scheduled for March or April.
Year-end committee reporting forms were discussed along with other business.
Diane reported that there will be a district meeting in Creighton on Sunday, March 16, at 1 p.m. All members are welcome to attend.
The Osmond unit will be providing the bingo prizes and cookies for the veterans at the Norfolk Veteran’s Home on April 11 from 2 to 3 p.m. Volunteers are needed for helping with this annual event. Members are to call Diane or Barb if they are able to help or provide cookies.
