Tree care workshops in Hartington, Norfolk, Ord

You can go through all four seasons in a single day! Along with calving and field preparation for planting, spring - time is also a period to celebrate our tree planting heritage and that also means tree care! The Nebraska Forest Service will be hosting three tree

care workshops in eastern Nebraska this March in Hartington, Norfolk, and Ord. All three workshops will require advanced registration and will cost $40 per person and this will include refreshments, a noon meal, and hand - out materials. Registration will begin around 8:30 a.m. with a start time of 9 a.m. and lunch around 11:45 a.m. The program will be divided into classroom sessions in the morning and tion in Ord. The program should wrap up around 3:00 p.m. Attendees are more than welcome to bring their own pruning equip - ment, but that is not necessary. Those who do should make sure they can identify them from others. It is also recommended that attendees bring their own work gloves and dress for outdoor conditions. If the weather is unfavorable to be outside, we will have indoor instruction and activities

as a backup.

Hartington will kick off the first of the three tree care workshops on Tuesday, March 25, at the Hartington city auditorium at 101 North Broadway. On We d n e s d a y, March 26, the Lifelong Learn - ing Center in Norfolk on the campus of Northeast Community College will host the middle workshop. And the Lower Loup Natural Resources District of - fice will host the final workshop in Ord on Thursday, March 27.

The topics that will be discussed include pruning landscape trees and fruit trees, getting updated on insect and disease issues of trees, and why the health of the soil plays an important role in your tree's overall well-being. Additional topics such as establishing food forests in your community and tricks and tips for improving your trees' performance will be brought front and center.
