The Osmond-Randolph Hawks had three games in the last week, traveling to Winside for a make-up game, then hosting the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears before traveling to Plainview to take on the Pirates.
Hawks vs. Wildcats
WINSIDE — On Monday, Jan. 22, the Osmond-Randolph Hawks traveled to Winside to play a game originally scheduled for Jan. 16. In a rematch of the first-round Holiday Tournament matchup in which the Hawks won 57-32, Winside was able to flip the script and come away with a 47-41 victory, riding mostly on a 16-0 run that spanned over half of the third quarter and spilled into the fourth. Winside improved to 5-7 on the season as the Hawks fell to 3-10.
Xander Brown and Hunter Buchanan led the Hawks in scoring with 10 apiece, while Brown ended up one rebound shy of a double-double with 9 in the loss. Logan Lienemann came next with 9 points, all of which came on fourth-quarter 3-point baskets.
Baylen Guenther scored 5 points, while fellow senior Owen Severson scored 3. Rounding out the scoring was Brayden Shearer and Luke Harder with 2 points each.

There were no weary legs for the Hawks, as they came out firing and rode some timely 3-point shooting and Shearer post moves inside to a 27-20 halftime lead. At one point, the Hawks led by 13 at 45-32 late in the third.
The pesky Bears hung around and drilled some big shots down the stretch, and despite having numerous opportunities, the Hawks couldn’t seal the deal. It was tied 56-56 at the end of regulation and it took overtime to decide things.
O-R took the lead in OT first on a layup by Brown, but the lead was short-lived, as the Bears finally broke through and won the game, 63-59. It was a hard-fought battle by the Hawk boys, but ultimately came up one point short of sealing the victory.
O-R fell to 3-11 as the LCC Bears improved to 10-5 on the season.
Brown led the way with 16 points, while Brayden Shearer played a monster of a game, netting a 16 point-10 rebound double-double on the night. Severson joined his senior classmates in double figures with 10 points. Bu chanan had 9 points, while Lienemann hit a pair of 3’s for 6 points of his own. Engel scored 2 to finish out the scoring. With a win, the Hawks will then play Walthill on Friday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. with the location TBD; with a loss, the Hawks will be out of the tournament. Next basketball action for the Hawks after the conference tourna ment will be Monday, Feb. 5, in Osmond against Wausa, and the regular season finale will be Friday, Feb. 9, in Osmond against Stuart.
