Lady Tigers compete in three games; continue in conference play
Osmond players watch the ball and prepare to rebound in game against Walthill last week

The Osmond Lady Tigers had another busy week of basketball last week playing three games throughout the week.

Osmond vs. West Point

The action started Tuesday, Jan. 28, in West Point where the Tigers faced the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays. Early in the game, the action was back and forth as both teams were getting a good understanding of their opponent.

A Tiger three-pointer halfway through the first period brought the score to a 12-7 Bluejays lead. Unfortunately, that was the closest Osmond would get for the rest of the game. GACC would go on to win the contest 74-17.

On Thursday, Jan. 30, the Tigers were back in Osmond as the Walthill Blujays came to town. The game would go back and forth for four full quarters with neither team ever really taking a commanding lead.

Osmond would hold a small lead after the first quarter of play, up 13- 11. Walthill would close that margin going into the halftime break but Osmond still found themselves up 22-21.

The third quarter saw the Tigers extend their lead slightly, leading 33-31 going into the final quarter of action. The fourth quarter was a wild ride to the finish as the game saw 5 total players combined from both teams foul out.

Fourth quarter free throws for the Tigers, especially late in the game, helped secure the win for the home squad. Osmond knocked down 10 of 16 shots from the charity stripe alone in the fourth quarter, and 23 of 35 in the game.

Freshman Korrine Moes led the scoring for the Tigers with 20 points. Junior Kaleigh Miller was one point shy of a double-double as she finished with 9 points and a team-high 16 rebounds. Senior Sophia Gansebom distributed a team-high 4 assists.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, it was first- round action of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament. Ironically, Osmond got matched up to play Walthill in the bracket as Osmond would draw the 10th seed and traveled to Walthill who earned the seventh seed.

Having played each other only two nights earlier, there were no secrets one team could hide from the other.

Osmond would take the lead early, having a 9-5 advantage after the first quarter of play. The Tigers extended their lead going into halftime 23-13.

The second half would play out as a game of runs. Osmond would go on a scoring run, then Walthill would respond with some shots to go on a run of their own. At one point Osmond had built up their lead to a 19 point advantage.

Going into the final quarter, Os mond led 41-24. Walthill had some fireworks left in them as they scored 20 points in the fourth quarter fueled by Khristin Wolfe’s 13 fourth-quarter points.

However, Osmond was able to withstand the final surge and knocked down their own 12 points in the final

quarter. AWolfe 3 pointer at the buzzer for Walthill brought the final to a 53- 44 ball game.

Balanced scoring and an outstanding rebounding night for Osmond was key to the Tiger victory. Multiple Tigers collected double digit rebounds enroute to the team collecting a total of 59 throughout the contest.

Sophia Gansebom led the Tigers in scoring with 14 points and earned the double-double with her 15 rebounds. Carrie Kumm grabbed a team-high 18 rebounds. Kaleigh Miller earned another double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
