Lady Tigers have another busy week

The Osmond Lady Tigers basketball team completed three games last week in another busy week, with two homes games against Winside and St. Mary's, and one in Irene, SD.

Osmond vs. Winside

OSMOND - The first game of the week came on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Osmond, where the Tigers hosted the Winside Wildcats. The game started out with both teams going back and forth with no one claiming an advantage by the end of the first quarter. However, the Tigers used a strong defensive second quarter to shut the Wildcats down, holding them scoreless, to take the lead 18-10 going into the halftime break.

Winside responded in the third quarter by outscoring Osmond by 5 points to close the margin and trailed 26-23 to start the final quarter.

Osmond was able to extend the lead before Winside made one final push late. A Winside layup as time expired just wasn't enough as Osmond was able to claim the home court victory, 40-37.

On a night where the sickness bug had struck the team and school hard, it was good to see the girls battle through adversity with only seven players suited up, and still come out victorious.

Korrine Moes and Sophia Gansebom both lead the Tigers in scoring with 15 points each. Gansebom, Carrie Kumm, and Kaleigh Miller all three pulled down 9 rebounds each to lead the rebounding category. Miller was also a defensive standout in the game, getting team highs with 3 steals and 4 blocks in the effort.

OSMOND — Staying in Osmond for Friday's game on Jan. 24, the Tigers welcomed the D2 state-ranked St. Mary's Cardinals. The Cardinals defensive pressure early in the game was a tough challenge for the Tigers.

St. Mary's was able to take an 11 point lead after the first quarter and extend it to an 18 point lead at halftime, leading 38-20.

The second half saw the Tigers slow the game down and compete well with the Cardinals the rest of the game. Osmond was able to play well and the point difference in the second half was only 5 points.

St. Mary's defensive pressure and efficient shooting in the first half proved to be the true difference in the contest as they would claim the victory, 62-39.

Carrie Kumm had a great game for the Tigers, leading the team in scoring with 13 points, and also rebounds with 11 to complete the double-double to go along with an efficient shooting night of 45%.

Sophia Gansebom and Charley Aschoff both found open teammates throughout the game and finished with 3 assists each. Aschoff also came away with 3 steals. Gansebom turned away 3 Cardinals' shots to lead the team in blocks.

There's something you don't see every day! An unusual sight - the basketball became stuck after a shot last Friday night. It was soon knocked down, and play continued.
