There was a lot of wrestling action this weekend with the high school varsity team wrestling at Battle Creek on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Out of the high school wrestlers who competed at Battle Creek, senior Jaxon Vinson upset his semifinal match to head into finals where he received a second-place medal, while Kaleb Gardner received a third-place medal and Caleb Vinson and Tate Stolpe both received a fourth place.
Coach Nathan Vinson said he was very proud of how the boys performed.
“The sportsmanship was excellent. Can't wait to see what happens at conference this coming Thursday in Winside.”
132 lbs. — Mason True (6-8) placed 12th and scored 2.0 team points. Mason won by fall over Gus Grint (Yutan), lost by fall to Zeke Bliven (Logan View), lost by fall to Braeden Kleinschmit (Cedar Catholic) 138 lbs. — Caleb Vinson (16-5) placed fourth and scored 13.0 team points.
Caleb won by fall over Noah Schmidt (Stanton), won by fall over Kody Bartling (Cedar Catholic), won by fall over Connor Thomson (Niobrara/ Verdigre), lost by fall to Trevor Carraher (Riverside), lost by fall to Bodie Hochstein (Cedar Catholic) 144 lbs. — Jaxon Vinson (17-2) placed second and scored 22.0 team points.
Jaxon received a bye in the first round, won by fall over Devin Hassler (Battle Creek), won by fall over Heydon Velez (Ponca), won by fall over Otto Henkel (Yutan), lost by fall to Easton Hochstein (Cedar Catholic) 150 lbs. — Kaleb Gardner (13-3) placed third and scored 15.0 team points.
Kaleb won by fall over Joseph Findlay (Oakland-Craig), received a bye in the second round, won by injury default over Hunter Kruse (Battle Creek), lost by fall to Jace Larchick (Gretna East), won by 7-3 decision over Ty Opfer (Cedar Catholic) 285 lbs. — Aiden Stech (3-8) placed 12th. Aiden lost by 9-16 decision to Joey Riggle (Oakland-Craig), lost by fall to Mason Planer (Battle Creek), received a bye in the third round 285 lbs. — Tate Stolpe (9-10) placed fourth and scored 13.0 team points.
