OSMOND — Immanuel Lutheran Church will be looking for a new shepherd for its flock. Rev. Scott Kirchoff, who has been pastor of the church since December of 2021, has accepted a call to a parish in South Carolina.
"After much prayer and reflection, I made the decision earlier this fall," he said. “I shared the news with the congregation shortly after accepting the call to Holy Lamb Lutheran Church in Myrtle Beach to ensure transparency and provide time for the transition process.
His final Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church was Dec. 29, and he plans to leave for Myrtle Beach shortly thereafter. Sonja, who is currently teaching at St. Mary’s Catholic School here, will stay until May.
The main reason for the move was to be closer to his elderly parents. “Also, this move represents a new opportunity to serve in a unique setting that aligns with my gifts and calling," he added.
Kirchoff said the new congregation is smaller in size than Osmond, with a diverse mix of year-round members and seasonal visitors. The church serves as a spiritual home not only for its regular members but also for those traveling or enjoying retirement in the area.
There is no Lutheran school affiliated with Holy Lamb, but his wife, Sonja, is exploring opportunities in the local education system, which has several excellent options, he explained.
“It has been a privilege to serve the wonderful people of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the broader Osmond community," Pastor Kirchoff said. "We will always cherish the relationships we’ve built and the memories we’ve shared. I pray for the congregation’s continued growth in faith and trust in God’s guidance during this time of transition." Until the congregation finds a new shepherd for its flock, Rev. Jacob Tuma will serve as vacancy pastor.
