Pierce County Republicans discuss trainings, convention

The Pierce County Republican Committee met at the Lied Pierce Library on Tuesday, Jan. 2, with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer led by county Chairman Bradly Lewon.

The Pierce County Republican Committee met at the Lied Pierce Library on Tuesday, Jan. 2, with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer led by county Chairman Bradly Lewon.

Chairman Lewon reminded those present of the upcoming Jan. 13-14, 2024 parliamentary training in Broken Bow. Chairman Lewon will be attending and Lisa Linvil said she also would attend. Discussion was held on the importance of this meeting to the county and whether funds from the county checking account should be used to pay for the $200/person fee.

A consensus was formed that it would be a great benefit to the county GOP to have parliamentary trained individuals. The group voted unanimously to have the county pay the $200 fee each for Brad Lewon and Lisa Linvil, for a total of $400.

Chairman Lewon shared that on even numbered years, every two years Nebraska county GOP conventions are held at the county level. At the county convention, the county executive committee (chairman, vice chair, secretary and treasurer), two delegates and two delegate alternates for the state convention are elected by registered Republicans.

Only those who have filed their completed and notarized delegate form to the county clerk before March 1st are eligible to run for these positions and vote at the convention. Chairman Lewon highly encouraged all those in at- tendance to complete and file the delegate form so that the group can obtain a good number of voting delegates in Pierce County. Public notary Lisa Schmit offered to notarize the delegate forms that evening if people so desired.

The county chairman stated the next Pierce County Republican Convention will be held on March 5 at 7 p.m.

The next agenda item was to go through the NE GOP issue questionnaire requested by Todd Watson, the state GOP political director. Fifteen voting members were present and voted on the various topics ranging from global conflicts, abortion, and the recent congressional speaker of the house changes, and election processes in Nebraska. The group also added comments for Director Todd Watson on the breakdown of border security and the masses of illegal immigrants flowing into the United States.

Next, Mark Linvil, Nebraska Bankers Association board member, presented to the group information he was given at a recent association meeting regarding the EPIC Option. Mark shared the association’s concerns and statistics compiled that the EPIC Option cannot meet the revenue needs of Nebraska. The NE Bankers Association is generally speaking in opposition to EPIC Option. Information was given to those in attendance for their review and study.

A number of members showed interest in getting local candidates running for local offices to attend nearby future monthly meetings so that those interested could hear candidates’ views on local issues. Chairman Lewon said that was a good idea and he would work towards something like this in future months.

The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m. The next monthly meeting will be held on the FIRST Tuesday, Feb 6, at 7 p.m. at Lied Library in Pierce.
