CENTER – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Jan. 21 about tools stolen from a cabin in rural Crofton.

Joshua Probasco, Norfolk, told the sheriff’s office he arrived at his under-construction cabin at 54511 897th Road, Crofton, and discovered tools had been stolen.

The suspect(s) used two toboggan sleds from the cabin to take the tools from the cabin to the road. Boot prints were discovered at the scene.

The theft occurred between Jan. 7 and Jan. 21. The value of the items stolen has not been determined.

The sheriff’s office received a report at about 4:15 a.m., Jan. 20, of a one-vehicle crash that occurred south of the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 12 near Niobrara.

The investigation revealed Dawson Haas, 18, Yankton, S.D., was driving a motor vehicle north on Highway 14 and approaching the intersection with Highway 12.

As a result of a deer in the road, slick road conditions and the left curvature of the road, when Haas applied the brakes and attempted to avoid the deer, his vehicle departed the east side of the road and struck a utility pole.

The vehicle was disabled due to the crash with the pole and was later towed.

No injuries were reported and Haas received a ride from a family member following the crash.
