OSMOND — Students at St. Mary’s Catholic School honored veterans with a Veterans Day program on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the school. Displayed in the room were uniforms and pictures of the students’ relatives and ancestors who had served or are serving in the military.
The program began with the presentation of the Colors by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7838, American Legion Post 326, Sons of the American Legion Squad 326 and their auxiliaries. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the National Anthem. Rev. Scott Kirchoff gave the invocation.
St. Mary’s preschool students started off the students’ portion of the program by singing “See The Veterans.”
The kindergarten through eighth grades then sang “Armed Forces Medley” as members of the audience stood when their song was played.
Other songs sung by the students included “Thank A Vet” and “This Land Is Your Land.”
Between songs, students read essays and poems they had written honoring veterans in general and those they knew in particular.
The guest speaker was Pastor Kirchoff, who answered questions given by seventh grade students Emmett Hoffman, Klaire Stech and Michael Vinson.
At the conclusion of the program, the members of the service units in attendance gave a presentation on flag etiquette, telling about the parts of the flag, showing how it should be folded and what each fold represents, and quizzing the students about the flag.
Pastor Kirchoff then gave the benediction and the Colors were retired.
