RANDOLPH — The 2024 Lewis and Clark Conference Vocal Clinic was held at Randolph Public Schools on Monday, Nov. 4. It was a day of making music with clinician Joel Johnston from Midland University.
Eleven schools participated, includ- ing Bloomfield, Creighton, Osmond, Wynot, Homer, Walthill, Randolph, Wausa, Winside, Allen, and Emerson-Hubbard.
All of these schools combined their high school choirs to make one big ensemble and sing the following songs: “Let Freedom Ring” by Ruth Morris Gray, “Hamilton Highlights” arranged by Lisa DeSpain, and “I Will Sing” by Michael Engelhardt. The latter song was accompanied by Dr. Andrew Schultz, the Randolph music

director, on the ukelele bass and Mrs. Hope Nelson, the Wynot music director, on the drum set.
The treble voices sang “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” arranged by Ed Lojeski, while Mrs. Shelia Lange from Bloomfield played the trumpet and Dr. Schultz played the bass line on the bass ukelele. The bass voices say “Sixteen Tons,” arranged by Kirby Shaw, a capella which means without accompaniment or piano playing along.
The Conference Honor Choir was an auditioned group of 32 students, four of whom were Osmond students. Erin Wagner, Korrine Moes, Donovan Heiman, and Jack Berg all made the honor choir this year, receiving a medal for participating. The honor choir sang “Elijah Rock,” arranged by Jester Hairston, also unaccompanied by the piano. The accompanist for the day was Mrs. Deb Kruse, a retired music teacher from Wynot.
The concert was at 5:30 p.m. in the Randolph gymnasium.
In addition to Wagner, Moes, Heiman and Berg, Osmond students attending included Jamie Gubbels, Kaleigh Miller, Jaxon Vinson, Caleb Vinson, Deanna Kumm, Carriana Kumm, Ashlyn Spangler, Megan Kelly, Landon Oltjenbruns, Adyson Poellot, Makenzie Vaughn, Addison Miller and Piper Hoffman.
“It was an incredible day!” said Osmond music director Christalin Ginn. “The singing was wonderful and the energy of the 160 singers was outstanding.”
