WAUSA - On Friday, Oct. 18, the Vikings played their final game of the football season on a warm, windy day against Niobrara-Verdigre.
The Vikings received the opening kickoff at 3 o’clock in the afternoon to begin the game. Niobrara-Verdigre would block the first punt of the game which resulted in a safety, making the score 2-0.
The Vikings were able to score the first touchdown of the game off a 70-yard Colton Baue run (Kaleb Gardner 2-pt. conversion). After some back and forth by both teams, the Cougars found the next touchdown, making the score 10-8.
Late in the second quarter, Kaleb Gardner found Baue on a quick out for an 8-yard touchdown pass (2-pt. attempt no good) making the half time score 14-10.
Early in the third quarter, the Cougars would find the end zone again, making the score 16-14. Some fun back and forth play ensued to finish out the game, with both teams getting close to the end zone multiple times only to be held out.
The final score was 16-14 in favor of Niobrara-Verdigre. The Wausa-Osmond Vikings finished the inaugural season with a record
of 2-6. The team will look forward to year 2 of the co-op, beginning play in Wakefield next fall on Aug. 29, 2025.
