WAYNE – Broken Bow claimed first place, while Arlington and Fre mont took home second and third, respectively, in Wayne State College’s annual Wildcat Business Invitational held Oct. 9 on campus.
Approximately 200 students from 16 Nebraska high schools competed in several events in different areas of business. They were accounting, business calculations, business communication, economics, introduction to business, introduction to financial math, introduction to Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), job interview, and personal finance.
“We’re extremely happy that so many area high schools choose to participate in the Wildcat Business Invitational each year,” said Dr. Charles Parker, professor of business and economics at Wayne State and event coordinator. “It shows that students are committed to learning about the many aspects of business, which will help them in their college careers and later in life.”
Participating schools were Arlington, Broken Bow, Elkhorn Valley, Emerson-Hubbard, Fremont Public, Gretna, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Louisville, Lutheran High Northeast, Norfolk High School, Omaha Central, Osmond, Raymond Central, Seward, Tekamah-Herman, and Wayne.
Top Schools (Champion Cup) were: First, Broken Bow (54 points);Arlington (54 points); Fremont (30 points). While Broken Bow and Arlington tied with 54 points, Broken Bow won via the tiebreaker, which is the school with the most first-place finishes.
Osmond students placing in several events were: Erin Wagner and Meagan Wagner, fourth and fifth, respectively, in business communication, and Donovan Heiman, second in Introduction to Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
