WAUSA — On Friday, Sept. 20, the Wausa-Osmond Vikings opened district play in Wausa against the Boyd County Spartans. Both teams entered the match-up with 2 wins and 1 loss on the season.
The Vikings received the opening kick and proceeded to march down the field and put the first points on the board with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Mac Carlson to Brady Bloomquist. Some good back-andforth battle ensued but the Spartans were able to rattle off the next 22 points, leaving the halftime score 22-6.
Coming out of halftime, the Vikings were able to recover the kickoff and capitalize with a 2-yard Jaxon Vinson touchdown run (Vinson 2-pt. conversion) making the score 22-14.
The Spartans were able to throw 3 touchdown passes to finish the third quarter and half of the fourth quarter to make the score 42-14. Mid fourth quarter, the Vikings were able to put a drive together, resulting in a 46yard touchdown run by Caleb Vinson bringing the final score to 42-20.
Defensively, the team was led in tackles by J. Vinson with 14 total, followed by Bloomquist and Carlson with 13 and 12, respectively. Offensively the Vikings ran for 192 yards led by J. Vinson with 71, and Carlson with 67. Carlson passed for 107 yards, 70 of which were to Bloomquist.
The team is back in action Friday, Sept. 27, in Bloomfield at 7 p.m. for week two of district play.
