LINCOLN – History Nebraska has announced the recipients of the Historic Preservation Fund Bricks and Mortar Grant, which assists owners of historic properties in Nebraska communities.
A total of $74,046 was awarded to three communities to support the rehabilitation of roofs on historic structures of national, state, and local significance.
This grant is administered by the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office, with funding provided by the Historic Preservation Fund.
Projects in Beatrice, Comstock, and Verdigre were selected as recipients of the grant. The three projects were chosen from seven qualifying applications In Beatrice, the grant will support the removal and replacement of the flat rubber roof of the Bole Floral Building. The project will also include new flashing and gutters.
In Comstock, funds will be used to remove and replace the shake shingle roof of the Dowse Sod House.
In Verdigre, the funds will support the replacement of the tin roof on the front two-thirds of the Z.C.B.J. Opera House.
With the selection process complete, awardees will participate in a post-grant award training webinar, sign grant agreements, and begin the competitive search for contractors. All projects selected for the grant are to be completed by July 2025.
The HPF uses revenue from federal oil leases on the Outer Continental Shelf to assist preservation projects in all states, territories, and many tribal lands.
