Regina’s Ramblings

A Matter of Perspective

Forty years ago, in another lifetime, I lived on a farm. There were parts that I liked — the peace and quiet, the beautiful old barn, the cats and kittens. But there were also parts that I didn’t like — the hogs and hog smell, and not knowing how to do things because I didn’t grow up on a farm but being ordered to do it anyway rather than being taught.

Now, 40 years later, I’m helping my second husband doing some work on the farm he grew up on, and I am loving it. Even though it is hard, sweaty work, there’s also that peace and quiet that I love, plus being able to spend time with my loving husband. He tells me stories about growing up there, where things used to be and how they were done.

I even asked Brian to teach me how to drive the tractor. And this is quite significant, because in my former lifetime, I was told to drive a tractor without much instruction on how, and I accidentally bumped into the side of a barn — oops!
