On August 10, 2024, in the early morning hours the Knox County Sheriff department received a call from Starline Lacroix of Yankton, South Dakota, of a red, 2008 Dodge pickup being stolen East of Bloomfield., Starlene reported that her 18 year old son was driving it and told her that when they got out of the vehicle a was walking on a gravel road east of Bloomfield someone had stolen the vehicle. The vehicle was found on August 21, 2024, East of Bloomfield in Duane Schumacher’s field damaged and undriveable. The driver was re-interviewed and stated that he was the one driving the vehicle in the field and crashed the pickup truck. The Sheriff Office will be sending the report to Knox County Attorney, asking for charges of false reporting and reckless driving on the 18-year-old.
On August 14, 2024, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Jim Swanson reporting his yellow, Sioux, 16foot gate was missing from a corral Southwest of Niobrara. Another gate was also laying down between properties. During the investigation, Jim also stated that he was missing two more of the same gates earlier this Spring, along with a large tire that was cut in half that was used for a water tank.
