Sheriff’s Report

Sheriff’s office responds to one-vehicle rollover crash west of Creighton

CENTER – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one-vehicle crash at about 1:50 p.m., Jan. 10, that occurred on 872nd Road (Old State Highway 108) east of 516th Avenue, nearly 15 miles west of Creighton.

The investigation revealed Gerod Camp, 39, Atkinson, was operating a pickup truck east on 872nd Road at about 55-60 miles per hour. Due to the winter weather and road conditions, specifically slush in the road, Camp briefly lost control of the vehicle and slid into the south ditch.

The pickup truck then collided with a private driveway and rolled onto the driver’s side. Camp did not report any injuries from the incident.

Creighton volunteer firefighters and rescue personnel assisted with traffic direction. The vehicle was towed, and the road was cleared at about 3:15 p.m.

The sheriff’s office received a call at about 2:30 p.m., Jan. 11, from a Knox County resident regarding an attempted scam.

The victim was targeted online and then via a telephone contact. The scammer attempted to have the victim transfer several thousand dollars from their bank account.

However, a bank employee realized the situation was likely a scam and assisted in discontinuing the transaction.

People are asked to remain vigilant against these ongoing threats to one’s financial and personal information security, and are asked to question any callers to determine their legitimacy.

If anyone has any concerns or questions or has been victimized in some way, they are asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 402-288-4261.
