BLOOMFIELD – The 141st Knox County Fair is ready to rock with some Christian music.

A concert called “Jesus Rocks in Knox” will headline the first day of the 2024 edition of the five-day county fair in Bloomfield on Aug. 7. There will be no admission charge at the front gate, but freewill donations are encouraged.

The event will feature four groups of praise and worship musicians. The Faith Keepers are set to perform at 5:30 p.m., followed by John Hoffman and the Rev. Dr. Jacob Bobby at 6:30 p.m. and Just The Messengers and the Prodigal Sons at 7 p.m.

People who plan to come to the concert – which is in its second year at the county fairgrounds – are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, though there will be bleacher seating available.

There also will be door prizes and a food stand sponsored by the Bloomfield Bees Booster Club.

Members of The Faith Keepers, a children’s group, are from the Bloomfield, Crofton and Wausa areas, including Hallie Kumm, rural Wausa.

The duo set to play and sing after The Faith Keepers are Hoffman, a Bloomfield resident, and Bobby, associate pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton, S.D.

Just The Messengers — a mix of adults and children from Bloomfield, Creighton, Crofton, Norfolk and Pierce — and the Prodigal Sons — with members from Allen and Ponca, as well as Iowa — will perform together last.

These two groups plan to go back and forth between performing their own respective songs and performing some tunes together – the first time they will combine their talents for a concert like this.

Just the Messengers and the Prodigal Sons also are planning to perform a concert together on Aug. 18 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk.

Concert organizer and performer Laurie Larsen, Bloomfield, organized “Jesus Rocks in Knox” with the help of the Knox County Fair Board and Les and Jolene Jessen, Bloomfield.

In case of inclement weather, the event would be held inside the American Legion Pavilion located at the county fairgrounds. If that happens, attendees should still bring their lawn chairs to sit in and enjoy the concert.
