LINCOLN — The Nebraska Coaches Association (NCA) sponsors several annual awards to recognize those coaches and support personnel that contribute to the success of athletic programs in schools in the state of Nebraska. Each of the recipients are recognized at the annual Awards and Recognition Banquet, held on Sunday, July 21 this year, and receive an engraved plaque symbolic of the award.

Among the coaches honored for 40 years of coaching was Joe Ortmeier of Osmond.

During those 40 years, Ortmeier has coached cross country, from 2012 to 2024; girls' track and field, 1985-2024; boys' track and field, 1989-2024; girls’ basketball, 1984-2002 and 2007-2012; football, 1984-1989, and many junior high sports. He has also served as industrial arts instructor at OHS since 1984.

Coach Ortmeier commented, “It is a great award from the Nebraska Coaches Association. Forty years is a good stretch anywhere, but is especially rewarding in a town like Osmond. Also goes along with great assistant coaches and kids that work hard and want to be the best they can be, and the support of the parents.”
