PIERCE — Leon Janovy of Pierce has been inducted into the Pierce County Fair Hall of Fame. The announcement and plaque presentation were made during this year’s fair awards ceremony held Friday evening at the Fairgrounds Pavilion.
Janovy began his involvement with the Pierce County Fair in 1962, when he was assigned to be a vegetable judge in conjunction with his Vocational Ag teaching position at Pierce Public Schools.
Judging vegetables at the fair became a 60-year commitment for Janovy, in addition to a number additional tasks that included selling tickets, storing campers, and involving FFA students in fair activities.
In his announcement of Janovy’s induction, Fair Board President Jim Herian said, “It is with pleasure that the Pierce County Agricultural Society adds Leon Janovy to the list of those dedicated individuals in the Hall of Fame.”
The plaque inscription reads “In recognition of outstanding and dedicated service in support of the aims of the Pierce County Fair.”
The Hall of Fame Award is presented to individuals or organizations who have provided outstanding service to the cause of the Pierce County Fair, currently, or in the past. The award begin in 1983, and has been presented annually since.
