Wausa school getting ready for new year

WAUSA – Wausa Public Schools is gearing up for the start of the 2024-25 academic year.

WAUSA — Wausa Public Schools is gearing up for the start of the 2024-25 academic year.

Superintendent Brad Hoesing said the new school year is set to start on Aug. 15.

“The building is in great shape, rooms have been cleaned, updates made, and we are about ready for students in a few short weeks,” Hoesing said. “We are excited for the students to meet new staff members and the new students that have joined the district.”

Hoesing said students will see some familiar faces in Shane Anderson, Wausa’s principal of the middle and high schools; Greg Conn, Wausa’s guidance counselor and activities director, but also a new one as Heather Heimes is Wausa’s new elementary principal and special education coordinator.

“As the leaders of WPS, we promise that we will do everything in our power to provide the students with a great education and a caring and safe learning environment,” Hoesing said.

He also asked people to express gratitude to the school district’s custodians, office staff and food staff.

“Please take a moment to thank them for all the work that they have done over the summer,” he said. “They have worked long hours and deserve a thank you for a job well done.”

Instead of a large packet, Wausa school officials are asking parents to go online to complete student forms, which are under the “Family Resources” tab on the school website at wausaschools.org. If people do not have Internet access, they are asked to call the school office at 402-586-2255.

Dates to remember as the new academic year approaches include: -Aug. 13: Middle school orientation, grades 6-8, 10 a.m.

-Aug. 13: Elementary school open house, with prekindergarten students meeting at 5 p.m. and elementary grades gathering at 6 p.m.

-Aug. 15: First day of classes for kindergarten-12th grade, with a full day of school.

-Aug. 19: First day of prekindergarten, with PK home visits to be held the week of Aug. 12-16.

Parents are asked to check the school website for free and reduced lunch information. Everyone is encouraged to apply.

“We are excited to have your students back in school,” Hoesing said. “Education works best when students, parents and teachers are all working together. Let’s make this school year a great one for all involved.”
