WAUSA – The Lied Lincoln Township Library’s summer reading program is getting ready to check out for another year.

Children in preschool through eighth grade, teenagers and adults have been participating in the program. This summer’s theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.”

The summer reading challenge for children started on May 20 and will end on July 25. On the last day of the program this year, the library will have a magician and an awards ceremony celebrating the summer of reading, and bigger prizes will be given out. The child with the most minutes read also will get a prize.

Summer Reading Week at the library will be July 22-26 this year and will feature many events that are free and open to people of all abilities.

Bruce Arant, Omaha, is the award-winning author of the children’s book “Simpson’s Sheep Won’t Go To Sleep!” He is set to be at the library at 10 a.m. July 22. Arant, who also is an illustrator, will give a workshop for kids on writing and illustrating books.

Tammi Thiem, the executive director of the Omaha-based Three Rivers Library System, will give a presentation at 10 a.m. July 23 featuring a breakout box challenge.

On July 24 and 25, Peter Talley, a Hartington man who runs the Wausa Board Game Club, and library director Wendy Ketelsen will have activities featuring paper airplanes, gaming and crafts.

The library will have Lincoln-based magician Adam White visiting at 10 a.m. July 26 for the program’s end-of-summer celebration. Children’s parents and siblings are invited to attend as well.

The library also is having a summer reading contest each for teens and adults. They both started on June 1 and go until July 31.

The teens will keep track of pages read for a $100 scholarship, which will go to the teen who reads the most pages. The adults will keep track of minutes read and there will be prizes for the most minutes read.
