LINCOLN — Today, Nebraska stands at a critical crossroads in its stance on abortion rights as two diametrically opposed Constitutional Amendments have successfully gathered enough signatures to be placed on the upcoming fall ballot.
The first initiative, championed by the Protect Women and Children petition leadership, would limit the procedure to 12-14 weeks gestational age.
Additionally, this Amendment empowers lawmakers to enact even stricter laws safeguarding pre-born life, reflecting a commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in our society.
In stark contrast, the Protect Our Rights petition drive aims to enshrine in the Nebraska Constitution unrestricted access to abortion up until birth.
The Nebraska Republican Party (NEGOP) firmly supports the protection of both born and pre-born life, aligning with the objectives of the Protect Women and Children petition. As such, we are dedicated to educating voters about the profound life and death consequences associated with these ballot initiatives.
“This is an unprecedented moment for Nebraska,” stated Eric Underwood,
Chairman of the NEGOP. "The outcome of this ballot will define our state's approach to abortion policy for years to come. It is imperative that every voter
understands the language of the Amendments as well as the implications of their decision and the values at stake." According to the Secretary of State's Office, the Constitutional Amendment receiving the majority of votes in November will be codified into law.
