Plainview man arrested for theft by deception

PLAINVIEW – On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Pierce County Sheriff’s Of- fice arrested Travis R. Hofmann, 36 years of age, of rural Plainview, for theft by deception, a $5,000+ Class IIA felony.

PLAINVIEW — On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Pierce County Sheriff’s Of- fice arrested Travis R. Hofmann, 36 years of age, of rural Plainview, for theft by deception, a $5,000+ Class IIA felony.

Hofmann, who operates a feed yard on 536th Avenue in rural Plainview, Pierce County, was billing the owner of the cattle, Fred Co. Inc., of Holstein, IA, for corn not being fed to the approximately 1,800 head of cattle located at the feed yard.

The investigation revealed that Fred Co. Inc. was billed and paid for 67,959.15 bushels of corn for a total of $407,075.309, which was not being fed. Hofmann was arrested by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office and is currently being jailed at the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
