WAYNE – Middle and high school students from Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota and Colorado immersed themselves in music at the Wayne State College Summer Music Camp held June 24-27 on campus.
Wayne State faculty and current music students – including Wausa’s Tyler Baue as a camp counselor – provided learning opportunities in concert band, jazz band, jazz improvisation, musical theater, music technology, song writing, choir, ukulele, group drumming, mariachi, piano, conducting, and music and movement classes. Campers also participated in individual instrument or voice lessons.
The week culminated with a concert featuring group drumming, concert band, jazz band, mariachi, ukulele ensembles and choir. The four-day camp offered the campus living experience and social activities such as a talent show, a lip sync battle, karaoke and chalk art.
Wynter Fulsaas, Oakdale, a Wayne State music education alumna, served as head camp counselor. Other camp counselors in addition to Baue were current Wayne State music students Kaitlyn Michaelson and Morgan Czajkowski, Lincoln; Chaley Parks, Omaha; and Makena Ramirez, Grand Island.
