OSMOND — It was a cool, breezy day on Saturday, June 29, for Summerfest ‘24, much nicer than the previous either rainy or sweltering hot days the area had seen. Two new features this year — the Chrome N Smoke truck show and Real Reptiles — as well as some old favorites made it a hit.
The day began with the mud volleyball tournament north of the ball fields, and the Chrome N Smoke truck show to the east.
The truck show was a new feature of Summerfest this year. There were 90 semis parked east of the ballfields, with Reiman’s Coffee and a food truck there as well. Live music also played there throughout the day. The 2024 Drivers Choice Winner was Elton Wek of Yankton, with his 2000 Peterbilt 379 EXHD.
In the afternoon, kids enjoyed free inflatables, face painting and free swimming, with the latter sponsored by the City of Osmond. Osmond Volunteer Firemen provided popsicles for the kids, and had a truck available on the west side of Poolside Park for them to check out.
At 2:30 p.m., Real Reptiles held a live show which included a bearded dragon, turtle, tortoise, iguana, macaw and pythons. After the show, the audience was invited to the stage to interact with the animals.
An evening meal of pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, macaroni salad, baked beans, chips and beverage was served to 375 guests. During the meal, Bob Hupp once again provided entertainment this year.
A fantastic fireworks show by Gan seboom concluded the day.
