WAUSA — The school board hired Miss Bernice Coleson to teach th e kindergarten class for the coming year. Everette and Sylvian Anderson graduated from the Academy Dept. at Luther College in Wahoo. M. R.
Martin has accepted a position as traveling sales man for the E den Co. of Sioux City and Mr. Samuelson will operate the barber shop single hand ed as of now. Hildur Wangstrom was honored in her parents home by young people who came to a farewell party as she will be leavin g Wausa soon. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Thorell announce the birth of a girl born to them May 9th, and born to Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Nelson May 12th, also a baby girl. Per Pearson, Hulda, and Edna returned to their home in Col orado after spending several days here. WAUSA — C. W. Carlson was elected president of the Fair Board and Frank Allen the vice president. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ekdahl moved back to Wausa last week and Mr. Ekdahl will open a shoe repair shop. Mrs.
Nettie Ring, Wakefield will be the guest speaker at the Farm Bureau banquet to be held in Wausa. The Junior Newman won the local grade school marble tournament sponsored by the VFW of Wausa/ The American Legion Auxiliary met in the auditorium and spent the afternoon making afghans for hospital vets. Supt. and Mrs. R. Johnson entertained the school faculty and their mates at a luncheon in their home this week. The Home Activity Club met in the Ed C. Johnson home with the lesson on Life Insurance given by Mrs. Ival Lindquist. Relatives gathered at the Melvin Anderson home to honor Larry Anderson and Carole Anderson on their birthdays. A wiener roast picnic was held.

WAUSA — ‘Operation Tornado’ is now fully organized and committees have been appointed. Heavy rains caused washing in the fi elds with gusty winds and cool temperatures. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Swanson are the new owners of the Community Theatre. N. T. Tiemann was elected Pres. of the Nebr. Bankers Ass’n at their meeting held in Lincoln. Mr. Tiemann is the youngest banker to assume this post. A small number, 208, voted in the primary election held this week. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Nyman announce the engagement of their daughter Corlynn to Mr. Warren Wilbeck. Janet Holmquist was the mistress of ceremonies at the athletic banquet hel d in the auditorium. Mrs .Gary Erickson was the hostess when the Woman’s Club closed their season with a banquet in the Cov . church. The Commercial Bank women bowlers were recently notifi ed of placing 37th in the Class A division in the State Tourney held in L incoln in early spring.

WAUSA — The old Viking War Ship sailed over to Creighton last Saturday to participate in the Centennial Parade there. The float, a product of the community, won first place trophy in the float class at the parade.
The trophy was presented to Milford Koehler at the Horse Show o n Saturday afternoon. Knute Carlson was chairman for the project of get ting the float ready to go. He was assisted by Milford Koehler and W .T.
Norman with the decorating and repainting of the float. This committee did a fine job and they and any others who helped, deserve a hand. Supt. Johnson recently received a letter from Hugh A. Harlan, Adm. of the Section of School Management Serv. informing him that Wausa Public School had been continued on the list of Accredited Schools for the ensuing year, July 1, 1974 to June 30, 1975 by the State Board of Education upon the recommendation of the State Accreditation Com. This action was taken at the meeting of the State Board of Educ. in Lincoln, June 7, 1974.

WAUSA — Children’s pictures will be taken free in color Tuesday, June 25 of your little ones. The Gazette is having pictures tak en of all children accompanied by their parents or other guardian to the city Auditorium between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. absolutely free of any charge or obligation. The Gazette wants to publish a picture of your child in a pho tographic feature series of local children entitled “Citizens o f Tomorrow.”

WAUSA — The Viking Homemaker’s Club met at the home of Miss Grace Lindquist on Tuesday afternoon June 11, with all members present. The meeting opened with the flag salute and the club creed in unison. Roll call was answered with a reading pertaining to the month.

MAGNET — At the ceremony in Lincoln Monday, June 27, Governor Ben Nelson awarded a $200,00 Community Development Block Grant to Randy Albrecht, chairman and Ruth Bloomquist, secretary of Magnet Village Trustees. The grant will help the town update its water system, including wells, distribution system and storage tanks. The entire project is estimated to cost $479,900 and the Magnet board awaits the results of an additional grant application made to the U. S. Farmers Home Administration. The governor awarded a total of $6.7 million in Community Block Grants to Nebraska communities.

WAUSA — They did not include a $125, 500 grant sought by Wausa to help provide a new well and related facilities. Both Magnet and Wausa had filed before the April 15, 1994, deadline. Both towns were assisted in their application procedure by the Northeast Nebraska Econom ic Development District. At that time Linda Libengood, grant writer for the agency, suggested to Wausa authorities the option of asking the Farmers Home Administration for help. The Wausa project is estimated to cost $231,000.
