O’NEILL – Cashe Carlson had a bounce in his step after he played competitive basketball with his talented north-central Nebraska peers in May.
The recent Wausa High School graduate played for the White Team during the 2024 North Central Nebraska All-Star Basketball Game, which was held on May 24 in O’Neill.
“Playing in the all-star game was a great experience and super fun playing with kids from all over Nebraska,” Cashe said. “This was my first all-star game and I recommend to anyone who gets the chance to do it.
“There’s a lot of fans there that support both teams,” he said. “It was also very cool that some of my family and friends from Wausa came to cheer me on – that was awesome to see and meant a lot to me.”
The 18-year-old’s White Team lost 88-87 to the Black Team. He also was photographed with his parents, Chris and Nichole Carlson of rural Wausa, and received a plaque – with a team picture – for being selected to play in the all-star game.
“There was a lot of good basketball players there from all over and it was just a great experience,” Cashe said. “I am not sure what my stats were besides I believe I had 12 points.”
His future plans consist of attending Northeast Community College and majoring in agribusiness, though he will miss playing high school sports with Mac, his younger brother.
“I had a lot of fun playing with my younger brother and I wish I could do it again,” Cashe said. “There’s just something special about playing with your younger brother.”
