PIERCE — The family of Joseph Silhacek Jr. held its annual family reunion at Gilman Park in Pierce on Sunday, June 9. Thirty-eight family members and two guests attended the event.
After a potluck meal was enjoyed by all, a family meeting was held were certificates were handed out for the oldest male, Jim Riedel of Randolph; oldest woman, Janet Riedel; youngest present, Callahan Kruger, 10 months, of Osmond.
The longest married, at 64 years, were Jim and Sharon Riedel. Sharon commented that she was “just a child bride.” The newlyweds were Will and Natalie Kruger of Osmond at three years.
A guest, Betty Mena of Cuba, who was here visiting family, claimed the “traveled the farthest” award. The family member who traveled the farthest was Phyllis Schuessler of Lincoln.
Hosts for next year were decided on and updates to the family tree were discussed. It was decided to hold the reunion again next year at the park on the second Sunday in June. Family members also talked about trying to collect family histories from the older family members.
After the meeting, many visited the museum and the pool, and played in the park. Others gathered to play cards and talk of the past. A good time was had by all!
