Alton Orlando Fuelberth

OSMOND – Funeral services for Alton Orlando Fuelberth, 94, of Osmond, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. Rev. Scott Kirchoff will be officiating the service. Interment will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Osmond. Organist will be Lori Koehler. Congregational hymns will be “Abide With Me,” “A Mighty Fortress,” “Beautiful Savior” and “Holy, Holy, Holy.' Pallbearers will be Ben Fuelberth, Jeremy Brost, Gunner Fuelberth, James Ellis, Christopher Vaughan, Steve Fuelberth and Jim Fuelberth. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, also at the church in Osmond. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 326, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7838 of Osmond and Sons of the American Legion in Osmond. Alton passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Norfolk Veterans Home. Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Osmond is in charge of the arrangements. Alton was the son of Benjamin and Bertha (Brockman) Fuelberth and was born Oct. 4, 1929, at the farm home in Osmond. He was the middle of three children. by Rev. E.G. Holstein at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at District 29 West and Immanuel Lutheran parochial school through eighth grade, graduated from Osmond High School in 1947 and attended Wayne State College for one year. Alton was drafted for military service as a Marine, served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and left the Marine Corp as a sergeant. Alton and Leoma (Schulz) Fuelberth were married on April 10, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church by Rev Carl Steging and celebrated 67 years of marriage. Four children were born to this union: Bruce, David, Kay and Carl. Their home has always been the Fuelberth family farm south of Osmond where they farmed, nurtured their family and loved their neighbors and friends in the community. Alton was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, chairman, elder, trustee, secretary and finance officer. He also sang in the choir, was on the Parochial School Board and served on countless other committees. Alton was also active in his community. He held positions in the Osmond Community Corporation, Rural Fire Board, Osmond Housing Association, Osmond General Hospital Board and a life member of American Legion Post 326 where he served a stint as commander. Alton was also a 4-H leader and a Pierce County Fair supporter.

Alton celebrated 94 years of life. He loved life and the Lord Jesus. He missed Leoma immensely since her death on Aug. 29, 2022, and loved his family and friends. Alton loved to farm, partnered with his dad and later with his son Carl. He never had a new John Deere tractor but went through a lot of old ones and was always finding ways to make things work. Alton enjoyed working with wood and “learned by doing” most of his life. Alton loved sports, played softball, baseball, and basketball and was the most avid fan for all his children and grandchildren in all of their activities.

Alton was blessed with a loving, caring family and is survived by son Bruce of Dallas, TX, son David (Becky) of Groveland, IL, daughter Kay (Rob) Schupbach of Lincoln and son Carl (Nancy) of Norfolk. Alton loved his seven grandchildren: Caitlin (Christopher) Vaughan, Ben (Kate) Fuelberth, Jana (Jeremy) Brost, Meg Schupbach, Jasmine (James) Ellis, Desire Fuelberth, and Gunner (Sidney) Fuelberth. Alton was also blessed by greatgrandchildren: Benjamin, Hattie, and Audrey Vaughan; Robbie, Harrison, and Grant Fuelberth; Campbell Brost; Nola Dunson and Beckham Fuelberth. Alton loved the rest of his extended family through David that brought: Tommy, Natalie, Karis, Peter and Zach Hoerr, Logan, Ashley, Taevin, Titus and Selah Hangartner, Tim, Nicole, Scarlett, Zara and Jude Lee, and Tyler, Laura and Esme Hoerr into his family. He also loved his extended family through Kay that brought: Jay, Amy, Sophie, Drew Ostermeyer, Scott, Libby, and Davis Oliver. Alton is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Delno and Jeanie Fuelberth of Norfolk, sister-in-law Eileen Zierke of Pierce, sister and brother-in-law Donna and Gary Zierke of Pierce and sister-in-law Jerilyn Wardlow of Norfolk, VA.

Alton was preceded in death by his wife Leoma; his parents Benjamin and Bertha Fuelberth; sister and brother-in-law Elaine and John Cory, and nephew Mike Cory; sisters-in-law JoAnn Kubik and Lois Heller; brothers in-law Don Kubik, Rudy Zierke, Dwain Heller and nephew Kent Heller, and parents-in-law George and Grace Schulz.
