WAUSA — The mighty Plainview Pirates handed the Wausa Swedes their first loss of the current season when they took the long end of a 8-5 score at the local ball park Sunday afternoon. A five-run lead picked up in the first two frames was too much for the Swedes to overcome, although out-distancing the Pirates in the remaining 7 innings.
Jerry Lammers hit the first home run of the League season with two mates on board in the 6th inning. Inspired by Lammers’ long drive, the Swedes came up strong in the 7th and 8th with two men on in each frame with none out, but brilliant infield play by the Pirates put out the fire. Plainview used all their pitching staff to hold the game with Foster, Solberg (5) and Hicks (8) on the mound and Malnack receiving. Wausa pitched Willie Greenlaw for 6 innings with Bud Goeden finishing. Jim Anderson was behind the plate.
