HARTINGTON - The Osmond track and field team qualified three boys to compete in the state meet next weekend in Omaha at Burke Stadium. The District D-3 meet was held at the Hartington Sports Complex on Wednesday, May 8. The first qualifier was senior long jumper Hunter Buchanan. Hunter hit his longest distance on his second attempt that measured 20 ft., 2 in. Winning the event was Hartington’s Cole Rosener with a mark of 20 ft., 9.5 in. Hunter also qualified in the
long jump last year.
Later in the field events, senior Xander Brown qualified in the discus.
Xander hit a series of throws all over 150 feet on his three preliminary throws. The closest competitor was 20 feet behind. His best effort was 159 ft., 5 in. to win the event. Xander also qualified for state in the discus his sophomore season.
Osmond's next qualifier had to wait until all the rest of the district meets
had finished to see if he qualified as an extra qualifier. Senior Dominic True made the list in the 3,200 and 1,600 meters.
The top two finishers in each district automatically qualify, then the next
six fastest times from all districts.
Dominic finished in fifth place in the 3,200 meters just edged out of fourth by Gannon Walsh of Pender.
Dominic’s time was 10:51.54. In the 1,600 meters he placed third in a time of 4:57.01. Hugo Parker of Walthill won the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:51.55. This will be Dominic's first time at the state meet.
A group that just missed qualify ing was the 3,200-relay team. The foursome finished in third place just behind Wynot. The Tigers were timed at 8:54.97, six seconds faster than their best time of the season, but Wynot
was clocked at 8:54.78, a difference of .19. Wynot was an extra qualifier.
Osmond runners were Jaxon Vinson, Caleb Vinson, Matthew Alderson, and Dominic True.
Erica Heiman also finished just short of a trip to Omaha in the 300 hurdles.
She finished in third place in a time of 52.18, her best time of the season. Charley Aschoff was sixth in the same race at 56.87.
Fourth-place finishes went to Car son Bolz in the shot put. Carson hit a distance of 41 ft., 3 in., nearly three THREE TIGERS QUALITY FOR STATE TRACK MEET
feet farther than his best throw of the season.
Noah Geneski took fourth place in the 110 high hurdles. His time was 18.18. Teammate Donovan Heiman also made the hurdle final, but did not place.
Hunter Buchanan finished in fourth place in the 100 meters. His time was 11.79. Brody Krusemark of Pender won the race in 11.04. The boys’ 1,600-relay team of Owen Severson, Mason True, Nicholas Velasco, and Noah Geneski placed fourth in a time of 3:56.33.
Fifth place went to Sophie Gansebom in the high jump at a height of 4 ft., 5 in. She actually tied with Linden Anderson of Lyons-Decatur.
James Doyle finished fifth in the 400 meters in a time of 55.50. Also finishing fifth was the boys' 400-relay team of Noah Geneski, Mason True, James Doyle, and Hunter Buchanan. Their time was 47.41. Pender won the relay race in 45.16.
Erica Heiman finished sixth in the 400 meters in a time of 67.75. Jaxon Vinson placed sixth in the 800 meters in his best time of 2:14.88.
Anabelle Vinson made the finals of the discus, but did not place. James Doyle made the 200 meter final, but did not place.
